Associate Professor Geoffrey Young
Associate Professor Geoffrey Young is a highly qualified and experienced specialist endodontist. A/Prof Young obtained his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (University Medal) from the University of Sydney, and his specialist degree from the University of Melbourne. He subsequently established Sydney Endodontic Centre – the largest accredited specialist endodontic group practice in the Inner West of Sydney.
In 2011, A/Prof Young became the first endodontist in New South Wales to be awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS) in the Special Field of Endodontics. This is a highly specialised qualification of the RACDS. A/Prof Young is a senior examiner for Fellowship of the RACDS in both the General and Special (Endodontics) streams.
A/Prof Young is committed to teaching the next generation of dental practitioners. He is currently Head of Endodontics at the Department of Dentistry, La Trobe University. He holds an Adjunct Associate Professor appointment at the School of Dentistry and Medical Sciences, Charles Sturt University, and a Clinical Senior Lecturer appointment at the University of Sydney where he has provided clinical teaching for over 15 years. A/Prof Young has lectured extensively both Australia-wide and internationally to dentists and students, and has published both research and clinical papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
A/Prof Young is Founder and President of the Multidisciplinary Grand Rounds Study Group (MGRSG). This is an ADA-affiliated Special Interest Group which provides continuing education to a membership of over 200 dentists. He is heavily involved in the development and provision of continuing education through the Australian Dental Association and the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.
A/Prof Young is a past Councillor and Board Director of the Australian Dental Association (NSW Branch). ADA NSW Council is responsible for policy matters relating to professional activities of ADA NSW. He is also Past President of the Australian Society of Endodontology (NSW Branch), having served on the Executive Committee for over eight years. The Australian Society of Endodontology is a special interest group promoting interest and participation in the study and advancement of endodontics. A/Prof Young is a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and a Member of the Australian & New Zealand Academy of Endodontics, the International Association of Dental Traumatology, and the American Association of Endodontists.
In 2018, A/Prof Young was inducted as a Fellow of the International College of Dentists (ICD). Fellowship of the ICD is extended by invitation only, and follows a rigorous peer-review process leading to recognition of, “outstanding professional achievement, meritorious service and dedication to the continued progression of dentistry for the benefit of humankind”.
