As of Friday 8th May 2020, the Dental Board of Australia has further eased COVID-19 related restrictions on dental practices allowing for the resumption of all dental services.

As always, the safety of our patients and the dental team remains our primary focus. At Sydney Endodontic Centre we are constantly monitoring the health advice, and we continue to implement standard and additional infection prevention and control precautions as outlined by current Australian Dental Association COVID-19 Guidelines.

As of Monday 27th April 2020, the Federal Government has eased COVID-19 related restrictions on dental practices allowing for provision of a wider range of dental servicesPlease contact our reception staff to discuss your treatment.

The Service Level at which dentists are recommended to practice during COVID-19 is constantly under review by the Federal and State Governments, the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC), the Australian Dental Association, and the Dental Board of Australia, and is adjusted depending on a range of factors, including community transmission rates and risk assessment. In recommending the level, the safety of patients and practitioners is paramount.

As of Friday 27th March 2020, the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) and Australian Dental Association have recommended that dentists cease provision of routine dental treatment and only perform urgent and emergency dental treatment. This restriction is aimed at, (i) preventing further spread of COVID-19, and, (ii) conserving personal protective equipment supplies (e.g. surgical masks) which are required to protect frontline workers in hospitals managing COVID-19 patients.

In line with this advice, Sydney Endodontic Centre has temporarily postponed all routine (non-urgent) care. Patients who fit this category with existing appointments will be contacted to have their appointments rescheduled.

Concurrently, as endodontists, we recognise our duty to provide care for urgent and emergency dental conditions. This is important not only to ensure patients receive the urgent care they require, but also to alleviate the burden on medical primary care and emergency services. In line with this, Sydney Endodontic Centre will continue to treat patients who are determined to have genuine urgent and emergency endodontic conditions. Treatment will be provided with strict adherence to ADA Guidelines in terms of additional infection control precautions.

Urgent and emergency conditions essentially comprise acute dental pain, acute infection, and significant dental trauma involving pulp exposure and/or change in the position of teeth. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Patients over the age of 60 years old, those with chronic diseases (particularly cardiovascular or respiratory disease), and those who are immunocompromised (e.g. currently under cancer treatments or insulin dependent diabetics) should defer treatment wherever possible because social distancing is especially important for these groups.

Please be reassured that we are here to support patients and referring dentists during this difficult time. Our practice shall remain open, and our endodontists shall remain available to assist with your enquiries. The situation is fluid, and we shall provide updates to this advice as required. Please take great care of yourselves and your families.
